Chroma Notes — Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

1. Overview

Chroma Notes is an offline-first, rich markdown note-taking application published by Universalie Apps. Your privacy is paramount:

No External Tracking: We do not operate tracking servers or collect your personal note contents.
Zero Advertising SDKs: The app does not contain third-party ad networks, advertising trackers, or device advertising ID collection.
Local-First Storage: All notes, checklists, tables, images, and audio recordings are stored directly on your device.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Notes & Markdown Content: Titles, rich text formatting, checklist items, interactive tables, tags, and timestamps are stored in a private local SQLite database (chroma_notes_db) on your device.
Media Attachments: Images, videos, and files attached to notes remain stored in the app's sandboxed local storage directory.
Voice Recordings: Audio recorded with the built-in voice notes tool is saved exclusively to your local device storage.
Local Audio Attachments: Audio files selected from device storage for note attachment remain on your device for local playback.

3. Device Permissions

The application only requests runtime permissions required for explicit user features:

`USE_BIOMETRIC`	Biometric lock for protected and private notes.	Handled entirely by Android hardware security Keystore/BiometricPrompt. The app never accesses or stores fingerprint/face biometric raw data.
`INTERNET`	Optional Google Drive cloud backup & stability reporting.	Used solely for user-initiated Google Drive backups and anonymous crash diagnostics.

Device Storage & Media Access (Audio Files)

Permissions (READ_MEDIA_AUDIO, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Chroma Notes requests permission to access audio files on your device solely to allow you to browse, preview, and attach voice notes, music, or audio recordings to your notes within the app.

Local Processing: Audio files selected from your device are accessed locally for playback and note attachment.
No Data Selling or Third-Party Sharing: Chroma Notes does not scan your personal media library for advertising or tracking, nor does it share your audio files with any third-party marketing services.

4. Optional Google Drive™ Cloud Backup

Chroma Notes includes an optional backup feature allowing you to save encrypted backup archives directly to your personal Google Drive account.

Restricted App Data Scope: The app requests only the drive.appdata scope, which grants access solely to its own hidden backup file inside your personal Google Drive.
No Access to Other Files: The app cannot read, view, modify, or delete any of your other personal Google Drive documents or files.
Google API Policy Compliance: Chroma Notes' use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Direct Connection: All backup data transfers communicate directly between your device and Google's servers over secure encrypted HTTPS.

5. Diagnostics & Analytics (Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics)

To ensure app stability, detect bugs, and resolve crashes across diverse Android device configurations, Chroma Notes integrates privacy-hardened Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC):

Crash Diagnostics: When an unexpected app error occurs, anonymous stack traces, OS versions, and device hardware specs are transmitted to help diagnose and resolve the issue.
Anonymous Usage Metrics: Aggregated, non-identifiable feature interactions (such as note creation counts or backup trigger events) help us understand app performance and stability.
Advertising ID Disabled: Google Advertising ID (AD_ID), hardware SSAID collection, and ad personalization signals are permanently disabled in the application manifest.
Zero Content Collection: Neither diagnostic logs nor analytics ever collect, read, or transmit note contents, note titles, voice recordings, attachments, or personal email addresses.
Encrypted Transmission: All diagnostic information is transmitted securely over encrypted HTTPS connections in compliance with Google Play Developer Policies.

6. Data Deletion and Retention

Trash: Deleted notes remain in the in-app Trash until manually emptied or automatically expired after 30 days, which permanently removes all database records and attached media from your device.
Cloud Backups: You can delete your backup file at any time from within the app settings or via your Google Account security settings.
Uninstalling: Uninstalling the application permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

Chroma Notes does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. All note data remains on the user's personal device.

1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Chroma Notes, provided by Universalie Apps ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the application.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Chroma Notes on your Android devices for personal, non-commercial note-taking and organization purposes in accordance with these Terms.

3. User Content and Ownership

Your Ownership: You retain complete ownership and intellectual property rights to all notes, texts, media, audio recordings, and materials created or stored in the app.
No Ownership Claim: We claim no intellectual property rights over your content.
Backups: You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of your data.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the application for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws.
Attempt to decompile, reverse engineer, or disrupt the operation of the application.

5. Third-Party Services

Optional cloud backup features integrate with Google Drive™. Your use of Google services is governed by Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for third-party network outages or Google service availability.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, UNIVERSALIE APPS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA OR DEVICE MALFUNCTION ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE APPLICATION.

8. Termination

You may terminate this agreement at any time by uninstalling and deleting all copies of the application from your devices.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
